This is the tale of the fallen Dragon...
A month has passed since Chang had last received a letter from his father. Is he still alive? If he is, then why hasn't he contacted me? I must wait longer...
Chang Long had celebrated his 20th birthday in December, where his father had not attended the party. Nobody thought that Han would miss his only son's 20th birthday, but it looks like everyone was wrong. But this is more than just about missing a mere birthday, no, no, it is much more than that.
Chang had begun to think that his father wasn't even alive anymore. The last time he had heard from him was in August of last year. An archaeological excavation couldn't take very long, could it? Chang hadn't seen his father for more than a year, and he knew it had to do something with Hazuki.
"Father, where are you? Please, I need to know. I want my father back here by my side." Chang said while staring out his window.
It was raining outside; the sky was an ominous black. He had decided to stay overnight at his mother's house since it was too dangerous to go home in the pouring rain. Chang loved his mother dearly; the last thing he wanted to do was to trouble her with his foolish antics.
"I won't leave mother by herself, she couldn't bear being alone, even with dear sister. Father where are you? You must come back to stay by her side. Once we are all together again, we will never part. I love you mother, father. I honor you mother, father. We will be a family once again."
"Chang, you should really get your rest," mother said at the door. "Your father wouldn't want you to waste your energy like this."
"What father..." Chang said under his breath.
"What, did you say something?" she asked.
Chang turned around and forced a smile onto his emotionless face. "I said you have no need to worry about me, mother. I'll be fine, just go along to bed, you need your rest more than I do." Chang got up from the chair to walked closer to his mother.
"Really, Chang, you do worry me."
"I'm fine. Father will be home soon. By then, we will be a happy little family once more... a happy little family." Chang embraced his mother. "Good night, mother."
"Good night, Chang. Your optimistic outlook on this whole situation relieves me. I actually thought that you were angry about something a couple days ago."
"I was, but recently I have found a solution to my problem."
"Are you sure? Just because I'm 53 years old doesn't mean I can't help my son with his problems anymore. If you do run into trouble let me know, I'll try to help you any way I can."
Chang backed up "Thanks, but I'm a man now, I can take care of myself."
"You are my son, and you shouldn't forget that." Chang's mother walked away, but not before kissing him on his forehead.
"You have no idea of what I am..." Chang closed his door and turned off the light.
THE NEXT MORNING
"Chang! CHANG!" mother screamed.
"Huh?!? Mother?!?" Chang sprung out of bed and rushed to his mother's room. As he ran through the hallway, he could hear dull thumps hitting the sides and the roof of the house. There was trouble.
"Mother, what's going on? What happened?" he asked while entering the room.
"It's those boys again! They're stoning the house!"
Chang ran towards the window and caught a glimpse of four guys about his age. They were dressed in black t-shirts and all were wearing the same pair of blue jeans. The boys were throwing rocks and stones at the house, and smashing the clay pots outside.
"Those dirty bastards, I will make them pay..." Chang rushed of the room and out the front door.
"Chang! Come back! Oh dear..."
"Hey, this son of a bitch'll sure take a hell of a long time cleaning this place up!" one of the thugs said.
"Yeah, I almost kinda feel sorry for the poor bastard!"
"Uh-oh, here he comes!"
The front door opened, and Chang stepped out with a menacing look on his face. Strands of his shoulder length hair hung over his eyes, giving him an almost demonic look.
"Leave us alone..." Chang said viciously.
"Ooh, big man! Why don't you come here and face all of us?!?" the lead thug said while stepping towards Chang. "Or are you chicken?"
"I do not know what you guys want, but you will be lucky if you leave here with your lives."
"Yeah, we're REAL scared, Chang. How 'bout you just bring it down here?" another punk said.
"Fine, if that's what you desire!" Chang walked slowly towards the group who one by one started to encircle him.
"Heh, heh, heh, you're trapped now, Chang. There's nothing you can do. Get'em!"
The first thug rushed and swung wildly, but Chang simply dodged every punch.
"Stay still you son of a...!" the hoodlum punched once more. Chang then kicked him in the gut.
"Ahhh! Damn!" he yelled. Chang hit him with a jumping back roundhouse aimed at the temple. The thug fell to ground; it connected.
Two other guys ran and knocked Chang to the ground hard.
"Uh!" Chang screamed as he hit the damp, dew soaked grass.
The thugs proceeded to kick and kick and kick Chang as hard as they could. Chang was down. They started punching him in the face and neck and kept kicking him in the process. Chang could feel a warm liquid dripping down from his nose and mouth. It was blood, and it kept flowing and flowing. Chang started to feel light-headed.
"That's enough, boys, back off now." the leader said from a distance. He started walking towards the fallen, and bloody, Chang. He crouched down at the semi-conscious body.
"Gee, I really though tha' you would put up more of a fight. I guess tha' I was wrong!" the gang leader slammed his boot into Chang's bloody face, knocking him unconscious. Before leaving, he spit on him in total disrespect. "Say 'hello' to your dad for me, Chang! Wherever that bastard has run off to! Heh, heh, heh!" they left Chang lying in a pool of his own blood.
The front door slid open again; it was Chang's mother. "Get out of here you no good hoodlums!!!" she screamed. "LEAVE US ALONE!!!"
"What's this? Ah, Chang, you have your mother come defend you? Ha, you're pathetic..." the gang left.
"Oh, Chang, why did you go out here? WHY?" mother knelt down and embraced Chang's unconscious, beaten body in her arms. She stayed outside hugging the form of the bloody figure all morning. She wept. He wept. Back to Fan Creations page.
